Kennecott Clears the Base of Eagle Rock

A Message from Eagle Mine Opponent, Big Bay Resident Cynthia Pryor:
Today, I went to the Plains to help with the Kirtland Warbler Survey and found that all the forests surrounding Eagle Rock are gone.
Eagle Rock sits amid the devastation of a bulldozed obliterated waste land.  Eagle Rock sits behind a 12 foot fence and topped with three stands of barbed wire.  Guards surround the place.  Men are busy, machines are busy, the whole landscape is scrubbed clean – just like they said they would.
The trees on Eagle Rock are still there though, so if you didn’t know it – it looks just like any other place – just a place behind bars – nothin’ special.
If people want something to do about this – well, go there and take a good hard look at what a mine looks like and then figure it out from there.  Injustice, governmental mis-conduct, money rubbing hands, legal battles, tribal rights - all this falls away to the reality of the what is now happening to the Yellow Dog Plains and Eagle Rock.
We will continue to find ways to stop the continued distruction of this place – just don’t ask what you can do. You know what you need to do without someone telling you – just do it.

Eagle Rock Before Kennecott Cleared the Land Around It

I feel and share your heartbreak and pain.
I cherish the memory of a beautiful day I had at Eagle Rock before this assault on the land – and the people.
You continue to inspire myself and so many others, and we will not surrender.
I love the line in the Daisy May’s song, “And maybe when I’m older, I’ll get to say
That the heart of the people drove the mine trucks away.”

  2. Amongst the carnage, Eagle Rock still stands proud. God Bless Eagle Rock
