MARQUETTE – Keweenaw Bay Indian Community member Charlotte Loonsfoot received a 30-day delay of sentence today on a misdemeanor trespass charge involving a May protest of the Kennecott Eagle Minerals Company at Eagle Rock.
Loonsfoot, 37, of Baraga pleaded no contest today to the charge in Marquette County District Court. If she abides by all terms of the 30-day delay, the prosecution has agreed to dismiss the charge.

I still don’t understand why anyone in the United State/Snakes legal system would pursue the irresponsible Federal violation of:arrest, trial and possibly convict any Native American, starting with apprehending the person on Sovereign land . I suppose because this has been going on for hundreds of years.
The DNRE sure has a lot of latitude… If I were a pro sports fan I’d say it would be interesting to hear what kind of calls they make during the games. But I’m not
and this situation is not a sport.
thanx for being patient with me

On the way home from Charlottes sentencing we went by way of triple AAA. Why are they cutting down so many trees if they are putting the cable in the road as we watched them do? I never thought I would see the day that a flagman stopped traffic in the wilderness! The noise and truck traffic was deafening-a portent of things to come. awhy aren’t there more Charlottes? What a great group at the courthouse!
They’re widening it so they can haul heavy equipment along it. So, basically, they want to create a haul road along the AAA/510/550 and a haul road going through wild country south of the mine site.
